Bigg Boss is an Indian reality show franchise that is based on Big Brother, the Dutch reality show Big Brother. The show produces through Endemol Shine India through Viacom18 and Disney Star. Subsequently, the various version of the program are internationally available through the OTT platforms. Bigg Boss began its journey with the Hindi language, but has since been extended into seven languages spoken in the Indian subcontinent, including Kannada, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi and Malayalam. There have been seven different versions of the show in different languages that are spoken in the Indian subcontinent. The first show of the franchise is Bigg Boss in Hindi, that debuted in 2006 on Sony TV, and from season two it was moved to and is currently on Colors TV. In 2013, the series extended its presence in Kannada through Colors Kannada as well as Bengali by using ETV Bangla, later rebranded as Colors Bangla. In 2017, the franchise expanded its presence in Tamil through Star Vijay and in Telugu through Star Bigg Boss Telugu Vote Season 7 Maa. In 2018, it ventured in Marathi through Colors Marathi and into Malayalam through Asianet. Though only celebrities were selected for the role of housemates in the initial seasons however, viewers from all walks of life have been selected to be present in the newest seasons. Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, and Malayalam versions of the show.
